Love dynamics indicates to the designs of interaction, behaviours and emotional
connections within a relationship. These dynamics can be healthy or unhealthy.
Unhealthy love dynamics comprises power imbalances, lack of communication,
sensitive manipulation or a lack of respect. Any kind of unhealthy love dynamics
always favours dishonest communication, which promotes marital unrest and
ultimately results in divorce. In our research paper, we have discussed the impact
of dishonest interaction between a Single person and a Married person, which plays
a foremost role in divorce. We have tried to establish that the influence of Single
people’s dishonest connections on the lives of Married people will decrease as the
time goes on.
Media Building Opinion during Crisis: Analysing Hindi Media Reports on Migrant Workers during COVID-19
During the COVID-19 crisis in India, the real picture of millions of migrant
workers and their alarmingly precarious lives came into focus. The announcement
of a nationwide lockdown at a mere 4-hour notice violated the rights of the Indian
migrant workers to fair economic opportunities and dignified life during the crisis
period. Countless moving stories regarding the struggle for food, shelter and job of
the migrant workers in India have surfaced during the lockdown and at the same
time the inaction of the Government has been criticised over several social media
platforms. Studies have shown that 3 out of 10 Indians are internal migrants
(Bansal, 2016) and a considerable percentage of these migrants have moved in
search of a better livelihood. The push and pull factors of migration in India have
always manifested an inclination of migrating towards the developed, urban areas.
However, during the COVID-19 crisis in India, the inclination had undergone a
180 degree shift as the migrant workers started migrating back to their states of
origin. While this sudden and temporary “reverse migration” on foot has been one
of the most pervasive and prominent narratives of the COVID-19 crisis in India,
the mainstream media coverage of the same by and large has been superficial,
biased and vague. The selection bias is by definition a bias encountered by
researchers while selecting the samples of research and the outcome of the research
is drastically affected because of this bias. This paper aims to analyse how the
Indian media coverage of the migrant crisis in India 2020 has undergone a similar
bias of selective reporting and manufacturing public opinion.
Bargaining with God: Explicating Gambhira as A Political Space
of Marginal People
Folk forms serve as powerful tools which focus on the socio-political and religioontological trajectories of particular communities and forge their identities by expressing shared values and aesthetics for proper integration within the group.
Gambhira, an ancient and popular folk form of Malda district is linked with folk
rituals of worship. In past, Malda and adjacent areas were centres for the practice
of Buddhism. Borendrabhumi, which was included under Pundrabardhan, mainly
followed Buddhism, but later on, due to the idealistic strife, the Buddhists got
separated into different groups and a distinct method of Shiva worship known as
Gajan or Gambhira puja started to become popular. But the Buddhist concept of
atonement through the confession of guilt remained the central ideal of Gambhira
drama. Gambhira discharges the responsibility of depicting joys and distresses, of
protesting against violence and injustice by speaking the truth like an ideal
journalist aiming to protect the democratic rights of the people. Interestingly, this is not a traditional kind of worship where the god is simply offered devotional homage and prayer. Here, God especially Lord Shiva who actually represents the people in power, is rather challenged, insulted, attacked and ridiculed while performers put their battery of complaints against him. Lord Shiva is sometimes presented as ‘nana’(maternal grandfather) who listens to their objections and gives solutions and sometimes functions as the representative of the corrupt and indifferent politician or the suppressive colonial power. Significantly, the themes range from the utmost domestic and local to the national and international issues; from domestic violence, natural calamity to human trafficking; from the revolutions of Singur and Nandigram to distressing situations during the Emergency. Their narratives represent the communities’ fundamental values, beliefs, their thought process and varied experiences of life itself to provide a moral framework and indulge in wondrous engagements to look at reality anew. This paper intends to explore how Gambhira, in the form of political conversation between people from margins and those in power, transmutes the daily struggle of the former into a popular art form, becomes a shared socio-political space to air injustice and indignity done by the harsh repressive power structure and thus serves as a powerful weapon to secure their democratic rights.
Irresponsibility and Perception of Threat: The Assumptions Regarding China’s Nuclear Advancement
Recent technological modernisation in China’s nuclear arsenal that includes fast breeder reactors and Dual Use Airlaunch Ballistic Missiles have prompted the United States and the Western concern over a possibility of Chinese intention of initiating a nuclear arms race (SIPRI, 2024; Hawkins, 2025). China has time and again denied such claims and has reiterated its nuclear policy being rooted in selfdefense, deterrence and No First Use policy (NFU). Deliberating on China’s strategic understanding of nuclear weapons, its nuclear policy and its participation in international non-proliferation and arms control regimes, this article elucidates on the understanding of a distinct Chinese strategy of utility, advancement and effectiveness of nuclear power in international order. The analysis draws on the threat perception theory in international relations (Jervis, 1976; Walt, 1985), to argue that the U.S. and its Western allies projected threat of a nuclear arms race initiated by China is based on lack of cognitive understanding of distinct nuclear security strategy and vision of an East Asian power resulting in a constricted and misperceived narrative of Chinese threat. The article argues that enhanced understanding and accommodation of distinct strategic cultures, needs and interests beyond dominant western norms and perception can effectively limit formation of misperceptions and conflictual attitude and can enhance the scope of comprehending diverse ideas of security and strategic vision amidst a fractious, uncertain and conflict-ridden international order.
From Degradation to Regeneration: A Remote Sensing-Based Assessment of Cyclone Aila’s Impact on Sundarban Mangrove
Tropical cyclones pose significant threats to coastal mangrove ecosystems, yet quantitative assessments of their impact on forest canopy structure remain limited. The present study offers the application of Forest Canopy Density (FCD) modelling to evaluate the effects of Cyclone Aila on mangrove ecosystems in Prentice and Lothian islands, Indian Sundarban. LANDSAT 5 TM data for two different time periods (2009 and 2010) were used to evaluate the pre-Aila and post-Aila vegetation conditions. Following radiometric and atmospheric correction, FCD was calculated for 2009 and 2010 using the four complementary spectral indices: AVI, BI, SI, SSI and VD. Model validation employed multiple vegetation indices (NDVI, ANVI, PVI, SAVI, SLAI, COSRI, NDWI) showing strong positive correlations (r > 0.7) with FCD outputs. A change detection matrix was derived using class combination analysis between FCD 2009 and FCD 2010 to identify the pixel-to-pixel changes in forest canopy density caused by Aila cyclone. Aila caused extensive canopy degeneration across 14.03 km2 (27.2 % of the study area) primarily in island interiors where storm surge induced prolonged inundation and hypersaline conditions severely impacted the mangrove vegetation. On the other hand, the study revealed significant ecological resilience and adaptation. Cycloneinduced sedimentation along the rim of the islands facilitated the growth of new mangroves and canopy regeneration. This research demonstrates that Cyclone Aila altered ongoing mangrove succession patterns, creating a complex mosaic of degradation and regeneration zones controlled by local geomorphological factors. Thus, it can be concluded that the bio-geomorphic fate of all islands of Sundarban delta system is largely determined by recurrent storm activities. This study establishes the novel application of the FCD model to mangrove forest ecosystems, providing valuable insights for climate change adaptation and mangrove conservation strategies.
Gender Polarisation in Jeanette Winterson’s Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit: Understanding Homosexuality and the Destructive Result of Gender Polarisation in a Religious Context
Gender polarisation refers to the pervasive and insidious process of creating and reinforcing a binary distinction between two gender identities, typically masculine and feminine. This dichotomisation simplifies the complexities of human experience, reducing the vast array of gender identities, expressions, and experiences to two mutually exclusive categories. Consequently, individuals who do not conform to these narrow definitions, such as non-binary, genderqueer, or gender-fluid individuals, are marginalised, excluded, and often forced to navigate a society that refuses to acknowledge their existence. Furthermore, gender polarisation perpetuates traditional gender roles and expectations, limiting individuals’ potential and expression and reinforcing harmful stereotypes and biases. By recognising and challenging gender polarisation, we can work towards promoting gender inclusivity, equality, and a more nuanced insight of the complicated nature of human identity. Thus, the concept of gender polarisation enforces a socially constructed system of oppressiveness in society by making binaries between two gender identities. The power structure prevailing in society is there to beef up the idea of polarisation by empowering men and by subjugating women and, metaphorically, vice versa. The concept of polarisation dismantles the idea of individualism and personal freedom of choosing tasks and behavioural traits irrespective of gender. This paper is going to explore the theme of gender polarisation through a detailed analysis and interpretation of the novel “Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit” by Jeanette Winterson with reference to various scholarly articles and social theories that capture the factors of gender binaries, gender roles, feminine psyche, non-binary sexual identities, and sexual aggressiveness.
